Deputies to conduct holiday checkpoint

In 2006, 27 percent of all drivers involved in traffic related crashes during the Fourth of July holiday period (6 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2006 to 5:59 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2006) possessed a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher, which is the illegal limit in all states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

The Paragould Police Department will be stepping up its presence and cracking down on individuals driving while intoxicated. According to Paragould Police Capt. Todd Stovall, drunk driving is one of America’s deadliest problems. In 2006, 42,642 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes.

LPD seeks drunk drivers

During his 18 years with the Laredo Police Department, Officer Abraham "El Protector" Diaz Jr. has seen the aftermath of many car crashes resulting from intoxicated drivers.But none affected him more than one that occurred in the mid-1990s, when an inebriated father got behind the wheel and crashed into an 18-wheeler on I-35, he said.
